The whole idea of Bloc is that you can connect with people and actually meet them in person.
That’s why connecting with people on Bloc is designed in a certain way.
You can only connect and chat with someone new if you’re both attending the same event.
There are also different ways of connecting with someone in Bloc which we’ll explain below:
The following connection.
On Bloc you can follow other users and this will allow you to see their check-ins, Moments and Bites. You will be able to comment on each others posts and ‘connect’ in a non-official way on Bloc.
Please note, you will not be able to directly message on Bloc in terms of a private chat. For this you need to officially connect on Bloc at a mutual event.
The mutual connection.
On Bloc you can mutually connect with someone and you will be put into a private conversation.
To connect with someone new you will both need to be checked into the same event. You can add a person anonymously (‘+’) or send them a favourite () to get their attention. If the other person also adds you (‘+’) then you will connect. If you send a favourite (
), the other person will be notified and they can choose whether to accept or decline your request. If they accept, you will connect and you will be able to chat.
Once you have connected with someone you can chat to them on Bloc privately, even when the event has passed.
The reason why you can only connect with someone privately at an event is because it means you’re more likely to meet them in person, rather than be ghosted online.
On Bloc there are two ways of trying to connect with someone.
Adding someone (‘+’)
First is by adding a person (‘+’). This is anonymous, which means the other person doesn’t know it is you who is trying to connect with them. They will be notified someone has added them (‘+’), but they won’t know who.
If that user then also adds you (‘+’) or sends a favourite () you will connect. Because you have mutually told Bloc you want to connect.
Favouriting someone ()
When you tap the icon next to someones name on Bloc, you are favouriting them.
When you do this, a request is sent to the user and they will be able to see that you have favourited them. They will be able to view your profile and decide whether they want to connect with you or not.
If they accept your request, you will connect and you will be put into a private conversation.
Now one thing to bear in mind is that it’s not free on Bloc to send a favourite. It will cost you 1 BLOC to do so. But the fun part? The person you send the favourite to will receive your 1 BLOC.
So being favourited is a fantastic way of racking up your BLOCS on Bloc. So make sure you have a strong profile to increase your chances.
